Candiria - Subliminal

Let me preface this post by saying that after this demo, this band turned to ABSOLUTE SHIT. They got so bad I needed to capitalize it.

This demo on the other hand is sort of Atheist meets Deicide. While I'm not a fan of Atheist, I love Deicide, so I can handle the jazzy parts a lot more in this than I can in most other "progressive", or whatever the kids are calling it these days, death metal.

This tape was brought to my attention by my friend Mithrandir who couldn't find it online and brought it by for me to make him a digital rip of. When I realized that this was actually pretty decent, especially when you compare it to the rubbish Candiria turned into, I figured I'd post it here so everyone could give it a listen.

Люцифер - Live at Rock Forum festival 1989

I know literally nothing about this band aside from the trivial fact that the name translates to "Lucifer". What I'm offering here is 5 tracks of Russian black/death/thrash. These guys took a lot of influence from Celtic Frost/Hellhammer and also a bit from early Samael, especially in the slower parts.

Despite being live tracks, the recording on these is actually very good, and I'm glad, because, as far as I know, this is the only recording of these guys, and if it was a super raw unlistenable pile, they might not ever get any recognition, and they're definitely better than that.

I'd love to know more about these guys, so if you have any information let me know.

Холостой Выстрел - Тотальный исход

This is some dark, nasty Russian death metal from the early 90s. Once again, being Russian, this isn't something I have a ton of information on. The band formed in the late 80s, and released 3 recordings: 1 demo in 1990 and another in 1991 and then this LP in 1993. Copies of the LP aren't super hard to come by for a reasonable price if you're patient, but for those of you who don't want to wait months for a copy to show up, I figured I'd post an upload of it here.

Metal from the former Soviet Union still seems to be unexplored territory for a lot of metal heads. It's not easy to digest because most of the information on it is not in English, and it's not super easy to find outside of those countries. I'm certainly not an expert either, but this is definitely one of the true gems of the Russian metal that I've heard.
